Cardiovascular fitness is one of the five components physical fitness according to NASM along with muscular training, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Cardiovascular disease is the number on killer in the world right now, the good thing is there is something you can do about it!
Engaging in regular physical activity for 150 minutes per week or 30 minutes 5 days per week will decrease your risk of early mortality by 30%. If these numbers seem out of reach to you right now, start low and go slow. Research shows that some activity is better than none and the health benefits are positively correlated as activity increases. Meaning, the more you are physically active, the greater the health benefits.
Benefits of cardio include a stronger heart, improved heart efficiency, improved ability of circulating oxygen, reduces cholesterol, improves stress tolerance, improves sleep, reduces risk of diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.
